A selection of poems from poetry corner - all by Year 9 students, and inspired by Wendy Cope's "The Orange".

    The Golden Coin

I was strolling along the dark street, heading to the bus stop,
And I came across a bright, golden coin.
It brought a big smile to my face.

    As my bus arrived,
I skipped onto the bus -
    Purely out of joy.

I arrive home, with a warm tea waiting for my arrival.

I finished my tea, and I get ready for bed in my fluffy, warm pyjamas.
But as I got into bed and tried to sleep,
The thought of someone else needing the money came across my mind…

The next day, I thought to give the bright shiny coin to the local homeless man.
As I gave it to him, he said, ‘Thank you, thank you’ with tears in his eyes.
    It made my day.

I went home knowing I’d made someone happy.

    The Phone Call

I looked down at my phone
    And saw my girlfriend calling.

Instantly, I felt happy and excited.
It was amazing how a phone call
    Could make me so happy.

    The Comfy Bed

I went to bed and laid in my fuzzy, lovely blanket.

Then I clicked the clicky Netflix button,
    And played Smallville.

While I dozed off in my soft, comfy bed.

    Looking Fly

    I looked in the sky,
    Looking fly.

Notice the sun, while eating a bun,
See the moon (made of cheese),
Looked at my phone (big as an iPad!)
Feeling magnificent, while breathing the fresh air.

    The Ice Cream Truck

Walking home, I saw an ice cream truck
    I could hear the theme.

I bought a strawberry ice cream,
    And, for a moment,

    Everything felt calm.

    The Egg©

    One day on the ground,
    I suddenly found
    An egg.
    I found an egg.

The next day I look down
And then up and all around.
    There’s no egg.
    There’s no egg.

    Where did it go?
    Don’t ask me,
    I don’t know.

    Where did it go?
    Don’t ask me,
    I don’t know.

    There’s no egg.
    There’s no egg.
