Safeguarding
Cathy Maddison is our Safeguarding Adviser. She brings over 30 years of experience teaching History and Politics across both state and independent schools, where she held a wide range of leadership roles including Head of Department, Head of Faculty, Head of Year, Head of Key Stage, Assistant Head and Deputy Head. While leading Humanities, she completed a further PGCE and an MSc in Educational Leadership.
Cathy has a strong track record in outreach and partnership work, having developed summer programmes with the University of Nottingham and schools in Sheffield, culminating in a visit to Ningbo University in China to support cross-cultural teamwork. She also secured Shine funding to help local primary schools support underprivileged pupils.
As Deputy Head at a prestigious independent girls’ school, Cathy specialised in safeguarding, child protection and mental health, and particularly valued mentoring colleagues new to teaching or new to safeguarding leadership. Since taking early retirement in 2021 she has relocated to the Lincolnshire coast, where she volunteers in a local Warm Space for older people, and serves as the Link Safeguarding Governor at Sutton on Sea CP School.
Outside of her professional and voluntary commitments, Cathy enjoys football – proudly supporting both Arsenal and Bromley – and attending Zumba classes.
