Meet Sophie - Curriculum Lead for Cookery
At In Toto London, Cookery lessons are about much more than preparing food. Led by Sophie – our Curriculum Lead for Cookery – lessons are designed to help students strengthen self-belief, explore their creativity, and gain valuable practical experiences in a supportive and engaging environment.
For me, cookery is about much more than learning a life skill; it’s an opportunity for students to build confidence, creativity, and independence. Through our lessons, students learn to prepare dishes from scratch, adapt recipes to suit different dietary needs, and develop a wide range of practical skills and techniques. We also explore where food comes from and discover cuisines from different cultures around the world.
Lessons are carefully planned to suit each student’s individual skill level, helping them progress at their own pace. Above all, my priority is to make lessons enjoyable, engaging, and accessible so every student feels successful in the kitchen.
I have been teaching for 16 years across a range of educational settings and teach all Design Technology specialisms as well as Art. I’m passionate about practical subjects because they give students the chance to express themselves, solve problems, and create something they can be proud of. Having also worked as an Assistant SENCo, I care deeply about ensuring every child is supported to achieve their full potential.
