This term, our Creative Digital Media students have been combining technical skill with creativity, with both Level 2 and Level 3 groups making strong progress in their work.
Our Level 2 students have been building a portfolio of digital art, bringing together three distinct disciplines: 3D modelling, 2D drawing and pixel art. Working across these different techniques has given them a broad understanding of how digital artwork is created and the choices that go into each approach. Alongside the practical work, students have researched different mediums and the many uses of digital art. This has allowed them to show their knowledge of how it fits into the wider world of media, from entertainment to communication, and to connect their own work to professional practice.
Our Level 3 students have been creating 3D assets for their video game projects, and the range of work produced has been impressive, with a wide variety of assets designed and built by students. Having completed this stage, they have now moved on to creating 3D environments. These will support their upcoming project of developing a game demo, and give them the settings in which their assets can be brought to life.
It has been pleasing to see students approaching their work with creativity and care, and to see how each stage of learning builds on the last. Developing a portfolio and working towards a finished project are valuable experiences for students considering further study or a career in the creative and digital industries.
Next term, our Level 2 students will continue to develop their portfolios and begin experimenting with new ways of creating digital art, widening their skills and challenging themselves creatively. Our Level 3 students will begin work on their game demo projects, bringing together the assets and environments they have created into a playable piece of work.
We are very proud of the dedication and talent our students have shown, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next.
