Students supporting community connection at Tea for Free

Community connection and real-world learning go hand in hand. Every Monday morning, two of our students visit St Margaret’s Church to support Tea for Free, a welcoming community initiative that brings people together over a hot drink and a friendly conversation.

The students begin their morning by preparing the space, putting tables together and decorating them with tablecloths to create a warm and sociable environment for members of the community. This setup helps ensure everyone feels comfortable and welcome as they arrive.

As guests come in, the students take drink orders, asking thoughtful questions such as “Would you like a mug or a cup?” and “Would you like milk?” Once prepared, drinks are delivered with care, helping the students develop confidence, responsibility and attention to detail.

Between serving refreshments, the students have the opportunity to chat with participants, building meaningful connections and strengthening their social and communication skills through group conversations. These interactions play an important role in boosting confidence and encouraging positive engagement with others.

This weekly experience not only supports a valued community service but also provides our students with practical skills that extend beyond the classroom. Through teamwork, communication and community involvement, they are gaining valuable experience that will support their personal development and future pathways.
