Up on the top floor of 1 Cresswell Park you will find yourself surrounded by budding creatives working on everything from printmaking to embroidery. The shelves brimming with paints, inks and papers are the foundation for an exciting array of projects and creative exploration.
We work in a range of mediums including film and photography, digital print, textiles, fashion design, soft furnishing, upholstery, furniture upcycling, observational drawing and painting, screen printing, collage and 3D modelmaking. We aim to be student-led, taking time to discover and understand the mediums that resonate with each individual student. Not only offering art for enrichment, we also provide the opportunity to achieve a range of qualifications including Arts Award, NCFE Level 2 and 3 (Art, Design & Creative Craft), GCSE Art & Design, GCSE Textiles, UAL Level 3 & extended diplomas in Creative Practice and Textiles A Level – again ensuring that students are working towards the qualification that best suits them.
At the end of the school year, all students are represented in the summer end-of-year exhibition where friends and family are invited to view the wide variety of work on show and celebrate the student’s achievements.
Beyond the Art & DT rooms, cookery provides another creative outlet for our students. It’s a life skill they find exciting, and we encourage exploration and experimentation with flavours and ingredients – with teachers who are equally as passionate about both processes and outcomes.
Teachers in the Creative Arts faculty come from a range of artistic backgrounds; the fashion industry, film and photography, textiles, illustration and food & nutrition, all sharing a passion for imparting knowledge, sharing skills, building confidence and encouraging creativity.
Students leave the creative arts faculty with strong portfolios that can take them further, be it an art foundation, work placement or the continuation of their own creative practice.
