  • Meet the Peterborough English Department

At In Toto Ed Peterborough, we believe that powerful stories and strong communication skills can open doors for every learner. Our English curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and develop essential reading and writing skills that students will carry throughout life.

At GCSE level, students study both English Language and English Literature, exploring a rich blend of classic and modern texts. Our literature journey includes Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Priestley’s An Inspector Calls, and a diverse poetry anthology. Through these works, students develop analytical skills, empathy, and an understanding of how writers shape meaning across time.

For those who wish to continue their studies, we offer A-level English Language and Literature, where learners dive deeper into analysis and comparison. Past set texts have included The Great Gatsby, Jane Eyre, and Persuasion, while our current cohort is enthusiastically exploring Wuthering Heights and Rebecca, two novels rich in atmosphere, character, and narrative complexity.

We also provide Functional Skills English, a practical pathway that strengthens everyday reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This route focusses on real-world communication, ensuring learners gain the confidence to use English effectively in work, education, and daily life.

Whether students are unpacking the ambition and downfall of Macbeth or debating the narrative voice in Wuthering Heights, the English Department is committed to helping every young person find their voice, on the page and beyond.
