In our last update we mentioned that we were reviewing and developing our therapeutic provision. We are pleased to share some recent updates.
Rob has recently joined our team as our Occupational Therapist, we have appointed an Art Therapist who will begin working with us after Easter, and a member of staff has recently completed training in Lego Therapy.
Supporting our students’ independence, emotional wellbeing and social development is very important to us, and these therapies help us provide additional ways for students to build confidence and develop important life skills.
Occupational Therapy (OT) supports students in developing practical skills that help them manage everyday school life and prepare for adulthood. This may include support with organisation, time management, handwriting or typing, sensory regulation, emotional understanding, and strategies for managing schoolwork and transitions throughout the day.
Art Therapy gives students a safe and creative way to explore their feelings and experiences through activities such as drawing, painting and other art forms. For many young people, creative expression can help them process emotions, reduce anxiety and build confidence in a supportive environment.
Lego Therapy can take place either one-to-one or in small group sessions. Students work together to complete Lego building tasks, taking on different roles that encourage communication, teamwork, listening and problem-solving. The structured activities make practising social skills both enjoyable and engaging.
Together, these therapeutic approaches help students develop confidence, independence and the skills they need for further education, employment and adult life.
