PSHE update - supporting our students' growth

This term, our KS4 students have been busy preparing for their next steps.

Many have started applying to their chosen colleges, supported by our new careers platform, Xello. This fantastic tool helps students explore their skills, learning styles, and career interests, tailoring activities to their individual aspirations. Alongside this, students have attended career interviews, visited college open evenings, and discussed future pathways. They’ve also completed CVs and personal statements, ready for job applications or college admissions.

Earlier in the year, we delivered an impactful session on Drugs and Alcohol Awareness in partnership with Aspire. Students engaged in both practical and theoretical activities, including using beer goggles and examining trays of fake drugs to understand the realities and dispel myths often spread by media and online sources. It was a highly interactive and informative morning.

We also focused on Anti-Bullying and Cyberbullying, exploring this year’s theme: The Power of Good. Students learnt about the dangers of coercion and the wider impact bullying can have on individuals and communities. This important work was supported by the Peterborough and Cambridge Safeguarding Team, ensuring our content was relevant and up to date.

Mental health and wellbeing have been central to our PSHE curriculum, particularly during Men’s Health Month. We discussed how mental health affects us and those around us, often in ways we cannot see, and highlighted the importance of reaching out for support and signposting others to help when needed.

More recently, we’ve explored Personal Awareness, focusing on self-care and the ripple effect of our actions on others. Students identified strategies to support themselves and those around them, building their own “toolbox” for success.

Finally, as we approach the holidays, we are ending the term with sessions on Taking Risks and Staying Safe, equipping students with knowledge and strategies to make positive choices now and in the future.
