This term has been a busy and imaginative one in the Music studio.
Level 2 Music students have been developing their understanding of marketing, audiences, and key performance indicators by researching promotional strategies and applying them to a mock campaign for emerging pop artists. As part of this work, students created T-shirt and hoodie designs, and explored how branding and visual identity can strengthen an artist’s overall image. They have also begun writing their own original music using loops, samples, and their knowledge of pop songwriting to build chord sequences, melodies, and arrangements in Logic Pro.
In Creative Media, students have experimented with a wide range of digital tools and storytelling techniques. One project involves producing an audiobook-style recording based on a Five Nights at Freddy’s novel, created in Logic Pro using text-to-speech tools and sound-design effects to emulate characters from the popular game and film franchise. Students are also assembling music portfolios featuring both cover versions and original compositions, designing their own artwork, and creating accompanying videos in iMovie and Canva with the goal of publishing their finished work online.
Alongside qualification-based tasks, the studios have been filled with plenty of critical listening, creative music-making, and sound-design experiments inspired by classic Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive games such as Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. There have also been lively discussions about favourite films and games, enthusiastic Wicked sing-alongs, and some fiercely competitive rounds of Connect Four – making for a term full of creativity, collaboration, and fun.
