  • Construction update - July 2026

Great successes this final term with all students construction qualifications completed and claimed, and without drawing a breath the students are now actively helping to remodel the workshop: moving the tool store, moving the kitchen (including re-plumbing etc.), preparing and fitting timber joists and stairs for the new classroom and landing which needs to be completed for our fresh start in September.

One of our students has been accepted onto level 1 Carpentry & Joinery at Peterborough College beginning September 2026, and has therefore been practising the assessments for this course in our workshop.

One of our students is helping to put together a task assessment plan for a new maintenance operations qualification we will be offering next year.

They have all worked hard and achieved highly throughout this year, and we have all moulded into a team.

We also have one student that left us in the last week of June with his Diploma level 2 in site carpentry & joinery, stepping straight into full-time work with a local builder, and another that found his own work experience with a bricklaying gang.

We had a fantastic visit from JN Bentley Civil Engineering – giving our students a talk on career path choices and career progression – which went down really well, inspiring and motivating our students.

Also in this final term, we have been joined by a great young lady from In Toto Ed Cambridge who has a big interest in Bricklaying and general construction, and is also very good at it !

    New classroom/kitchen move progress:

    New floorboards for classroom

New joists for new staircase landing

Harry preparing new joists with joist hangers

Finley extending waste pipe for kitchen that we are moving to make way for the new stairs

New tool store built by some of our students (Regan, George Cameron & Kenny)
