Careers Morning with Bentleys Construction

On Thursday 11th June, our Construction students took part in an informative and engaging Careers Morning with representatives Josh and Ian from Bentleys Construction.

The session focused on the wide range of career pathways available within the construction industry, from Level 2 entry routes through to Level 6 qualifications and apprenticeships. Students gained valuable insight into the many opportunities available and learnt about the different routes they can take to build a successful career.

The two representatives from Bentleys shared their own career journeys, demonstrating that there is no single path to success. One followed a university route, while the other left school with few qualifications and progressed through employment and training opportunities. Despite taking very different paths, both are now working in similar professional roles, highlighting the importance of determination, commitment, and making the most of opportunities.

Students also learnt about the variety of departments and careers within the construction sector, including many areas of engineering from civil, to surveying, IT, data management, health and safety, welding, carpentry, and finance. The speakers explained how these areas work together to deliver successful construction projects and discussed the development opportunities available within the company.

Our students found this particularly engaging and opened their eyes to many other aspects they hadn’t originally thought about.

Bentleys operate largely in the UK water sector, with companies such as Anglian water, Thames Water and United Utilities. They help to keep water flowing by building and maintaining the critical infrastructure. It’s not just water though, they also build flood defences, new highways, bridges and industrial builds, plus much more.

The session also provided practical advice on apprenticeships, including the different levels available, how to apply, and the benefits of earning while learning. Their apprenticeships are hands-on from day one, encouraging both personal and professional development. A key message throughout the morning was the importance of a strong work ethic, reliability, and the value of turning up every day ready to learn and contribute.

We would like to thank Bentleys Construction for taking the time to visit our students and for providing such valuable insight into the exciting and diverse opportunities available within the construction industry.

You can email Bentleys Construction for more information about their careers.
