English as an Additional Language (EAL) Support

At In Toto Ed, we provide tailored support to ensure pupils who speak English as an additional language can fully access learning and develop confidence in communication.

Our provision includes:

  • Assessment and tracking of each pupil’s English proficiency using the Bell Foundation methodology, ensuring support is personalised and responsive to individual needs
  • Explicit teaching of key vocabulary to support understanding across all subjects
  • Use of visual supports to aid comprehension, including symbols, images, and simplified resources
  • Now and Next boards to provide clear structure and support understanding of tasks and routines
  • Adapted and scaffolded resources, including modelling and sentence starters, to support language development
  • Access to individual iPads to support learning, translation, and communication
  • Immersive technology integrated into lessons to enhance engagement and language acquisition
  • 1:1 mentoring to build confidence, communication skills, and emotional support
  • Buddy scheme to support social integration and peer interaction
