STEM update - July 2026

This half term, Julie - our Curriculum Lead for STEM - has been improving the STEM curriculum to be as deep, enriching, and engaging as possible to support students' learning.

The curriculum has also been enhanced to include new low-stakes assessments, which will help identify gaps in students' understanding. This will enable teachers to better target teaching and provide the support needed to address those gaps.

Maths

The Maths students have now completed their assessments, including GCSE, Functional Skills, and end-of-year mock examinations. They approached these assessments with maturity, resilience, and a positive attitude. We are incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout the examination period; well done to them all!

Our Key Stage 3 students have also been involved in an exciting cross-curricular project. In Maths, they applied their learning by measuring dimensions, calculating volume and density, and using these skills to estimate the amount of soil needed to fill our planters made from recycled tractor tyres. This practical project enabled students to see how mathematical concepts can be applied in real-life situations while supporting a wider collaborative learning experience.

Science

In Science this term, our GCSE students completed their examinations with maturity, resilience, and a purposeful attitude. They approached each exam with dedication and should be proud of the effort they have put in throughout the examination period. Well done to them all.

Our Key Stage 3 students have taken part in a cross-curricular project, growing plants from seed. They have learnt about the conditions that plants need to grow and develop, including water, light, and nutrients. Their hard work will help populate our planters with beautiful plants, creating an attractive environment for everyone to enjoy.
