Updated: Jul 11, 2023

This term we have welcomed Charlie Blackman-Doyle as our new Head of Pastoral at the Cambridge School. With a degree in psychology, a PGCE and a background in therapeutic working, he brings invaluable experience to the role.

Charlie Blackman-Doyle, Head of Pastoral, Cambridge

Cambridge born and bred, Charlie has settled in quickly and has made a point of learning what paths lead our students to us, so that we can continue to plan a successful way forward for them. When asked what his favourite part of In Toto Ed is, he said that “we share the same ethos, and this immediately aligned”. He goes on to explain how unique it is that In Toto Ed is able to create bespoke, engaging learning pathways for our students, and how different this approach is to the standard school systems that our students have previously struggled in.

“Our ability to work directly with students and families to deliver a bespoke education that meets their needs and engages them is very special. To do this in an atmosphere that is also relaxed and different to the feeling of walking into a classic school setting is so important.”

Outside of work, Charlie plays football and the guitar. When asked what advice he would give to his 16-year-old-self, Charlie said he wished at 16 he has felt less pressure to decide his future.

“I would say try not to put too much pressure on yourself to plan what you want to do with your life, there is plenty of time.”

Charlie’s favourite quote is a very relevant one from Ken Robinson;

“The fact is that given the challenges we face, education doesn't need to be reformed -- it needs to be transformed. The key to this transformation is not to standardize education, but to personalize it, to build achievement on discovering the individual talents of each child, to put students in an environment where they want to learn and where they can naturally discover their true passions.”

Spoken like a true In Toto Ed-ian, welcome to the team Charlie!
